I am an elder coin collector,I do not buy coin magazines, and using a computer is somewhat confusing to me.I am not sure this is the proper place to ask my questions but I will do so and see what happens. I know that coins are bought and sold on ebay but is there any where else that I can sell my coins/collections?

ebay has the biggest audience which can bring you more money for your coins but there are others that are like ebay but the audience is smaller so not as many eyes on your for sale items

What type of coins are you looking to sell? FYI ebay and paypal takes about 11% when the sale is all said and done. I wanted to give you a heads up because I was a bit shocked the first time I sold on ebay.

Welcome aboard ! As others have already said - Put some posts out here for a while, stick around and sell some of your collection here. What do you have to sell?

gasman96: welcome to the CCF!
I think you SHOULD buy one or two coin magazines from a news stand, even if you do not subscribe. It is out of these publications that you can find coin dealers, and they have telephone numbers that you can use to make contact with them.
I am semi retired, and and live in the 'burbs of a major city. When I have the time, maybe three times a year, I will go into town and visit the dealers, have a friendly yarn with them if they are not too busy, browse through their stock and buy one or two items that I may like. It is a bit like attending a coin show, and I can do with the exercise just walking around.
A lot of my coins over the years have come from mail bid auctions, and have been paid for by money order. The auction catalogues can be viewed on line with your computer.

Another option is Craigslist, but be sure to use a safe place to meet and DO NOT give out your home address or home phone number. Good meeting places for Craigslist deals include banks, or maybe fast food restaurant. Tips for identity protection while using Craigslist: Create a separate email address to use for Craigslist (Gmail works great). If you use your regular email address, an unscrupulous person may be able to track down your home address by google searching the email if it is associated with you anywhere on the internet; use a cell phone number instead of home phone. Home number easily returns a home address with google'd. Do research on ebay to get approximate values before putting price on your Craigslist post. If possible, do not go alone to the meets.

VF IHC is a Very Fine Indian Head cent. Just short hand for the condition and type of coin. There is no fee for selling coins here, but you do have to have 250 good posts (messages) before you are allowed to. You can quickly gain posts just by asking questions about your coins and such like you are doing now. If you can add pictures of your coins, we will be able to help you estimate their value and desirabilty a whole lot better. Good luck and hope to see more of you!

As to places like ebay or other on line auctions, I suggset you stay away. From what you say you sound like your not a big computer person so places like that are not for you. Not sure if you can get around but you really should try a coin store for a copy of the Red Book to get an idea of what you have and it's approxiamte value. Also, if there are any coin shows in your area, great places to find out momre of what you have and it's value. As noted probably the best and safest way is to make as many posts here as possible and try selling your coins on this forum.
