Hi all, I am new to coin collecting and the forums. I stumbled across a 1983-D Nickel that has the "L" and "I" in liberty mixing together to make "UBERTY" as well as the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" running into the boarder of the coin(i do not think this is as significant).. sorry for the crummy picture's, trying to hold a jewelers glass and a phone.

Would this be considered valuable or just a talking piece.

Thanks

to CCF!

Hard to tell from the pics (at least for me, not some of these guys), but it looks like a die chip.

Fairly common and considered a normal part of the life of a die. So, conversation piece at best, but keep looking and asking questions!

The nickel in Nickels make the planchets harder than other materials used in current coinage. With the harder planchet it makes the dies wear out faster. Thus the devices being weak next to the rim.
