Guys,

Let me thank the entire admin staff for rocking the house -- you guys go a bang-up job with little thanks, so I just wanted to say thank you first of all. I appreciate you!

Second, it occured to me lately during my quest to find what one commonly kicked-around term meant that there might be a way to improve these forums by the addition of a Glossary/ FAQ section. I'm talking even just a thread where the most-asked questions specific to coins are posted. A sticky.

Specifically, I was looking for the term "Darksider" -- I don't know what this means. I've searched the boards before and can't find a clear explanation, though I could guess by having been a part of the community long enough now that it probably means modern, clad US coins. I know I can just ask, but then, there is thread after thread of people "just asking" the same stuff over and over again.

FAQ / sticky opportunities include:

1) Common terminology: sliders, darksiders, bent, holed, planchets, culling, abbreviations, explanation of grading, etc
2) Grading services / coin protection options
3) "What years are silver?" -- quick expo on silver content in US currency / exonumia commonly encountered.
4) General Bewares: Cleaning, storage, general rules on where to buy and how to do research.

I know some of this info might be repeated elsewhere, so forgive me if I just missed it.

Thanks as always, fellas.
Rest in Peace

Scroll down a bit in this forum, and you'll find my own thread entitled "Abbreviations" with some of the same suggestions, and perhaps by now you've discovered CCF's "Glossary" under "Navigation", to the left of these posts.

However, I agree that some of these topics are buried in this HUGE forum, and it would be nice if someone with time on their hands, and expertise in their background, could distill and compile information from posts, or even set up a list of links to them. Sometimes a forum search just doesn't work for some terms and practices. (Maybe the CCF experts could compile and sell a CD or DVD with all this good stuff, proceeds to go to benefit CCF?)

Oh, don't be, TenSense. I'm still finding stuff here and there in odd little corners. Sort of like an online treasure hunt, and thanks to our forum Mom and Dad for packing so much in here. And now, behind door #3 ...
