OK....I inherited a bunch of coins, including some foreign ones. These are the ones I've selected from the "Empire". Any info you can give would be great...background and current value. I can get better pics of individual coins if needed. First, we have some from Great Britain proper, including pennies, a half penny, a three pence, and a farthing...whatever that is:

Next, some from New Zealand

A few others...Ireland (possibly?), Hong Kong, and East Africa

And finally...this one has Her Majesty on it, but I have no idea what country...says "New Penny" on the reverse:

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

A farthing was an English coin worth one quarter of a penny, 1/960 of a pound sterling. Such coins were first minted in England in the 13th century, and continued to be used until 31 December 1960, when they ceased to be legal tender.

The 1963 coin from Ireland is a 1/2 crown.

The last coin (1971 one) should say 2 New Pence on the reverse and is from the UK. These still circulate.

Definitely looks like "New Penny", with a denomination of "1"...

Yep, a definate battered and very common 1p coin, worth about one and a Half Cents.

The coins changed in 1971 from the old system with farthings, pennies, shillings, florins and things like that. The shillings became 5 pence and the florins 10 pence and were still used up until the reduction in size of both the 5 and 10 pence coins.

Just another note...this is only the tip of the iceberg...I have middle eastern stuff, some European stuff...Spain, France, Italy, Norway, Belgium...as well as a bunch of South American stuff...same time frames, etc. I'll get those pics up on the appropriate forums in due time...

Thanks again...

Sorry about the mistake on the ID of the one coin.

http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/coins.html is a good reference site for the UK coins. So you need to check there for the values. I have some older UK coins but they are not my main focus.

You might have more luck with answers on the non-UK coins (Hong Kong, New Zealand, Ireland, etc) over on the World Coin forums.

You might keep your eye on the trading section on the forums here. You have enough posts to reply to a trade but no to start one.
