I have noticed that the 2011 business strike pennies are selling at a substantial premium on ebay. I know that this might be the last (or one of the last years for the penny), but it seem like people are jumping the gun a bit. The last time I checked, there was no concrete decision to eliminate the penny.

All I'm saying is it might be better to hold off on buying one...especially at 500% of face value!

Good observation. There will be NO shortage of these pennies in wonderful grades, ever. Therefor these will always be available in nice conditions, and this equals a cheap coin. Just like the 2009 and '10 cents. Don't jump the gun and pay huge premiums for coins that will never give you a full return on your investment. Have patience and buy when the prices have come down to reasonable levels...such as face value!

Absolutely right mitch. Don't go by what prices people want on ebay.

I remember when they stopped making the dollar bill, It seemed like everyone was hoarding them, yet most are not worth very much today. I think the same thing will happen to the penny.

The Loonie was introduced in '87 to replace the 1 dollar bill but think the dollar bill was kept in circulation until '89.
