I was wondering I know alot of collectors in the US collect certain serial numbers. Is it the same for Canadian Bank notes also. I have a Canadian 2 dollar note that has 4 4's at the end of the serial number. Thanks.

Canada 1986c 2 Dollar KP# 94

Hi, there is some info about notes at the Coins and Canada site. Hope this helps. I don't know much about paper money but yes, certain serial numbers and errors etc are collectable in Canada too ;)

Canadian bank note collectors are more purists regarding the collectible serial numbers than are U.S. collectors. The notes would have to be true radars, repeaters, solids, etc.. On U.S. sites, I've seen them talking about bookend numbers, scrambled ladders, partial radars, partial solids and on and on. A lot of those "collectible" numbers, I believe have been perpetuated by sellers marketing them on popular auction sites just to get a premium on otherwise common notes.

To find out which Canadian serial numbers are collectible, I would suggest picking up a copy of Charlton's Canadian Government Paper Money guide which lists the desirable number types to collect.

I'm glad I gave you the link then! I just discovered the paper notes area recently and popped in there after reading your post. I usually hang out in the coins info areas, but it pays to know a bit about notes even if I'm not into collecting circulating notes for myself. Who knows what I'll come across that a collector in here might want.

Using the 2011 Charlton Cat, page 297, BC-55c-i, Bonin-Thiessen EGS-EGT letters, there were 20 million printed, values- $2.00 up to and including AU, then Uncirculated is $3.00, CUNC, (Choice Uncirculated)-$4.00, then GUNC, (Gem uncirculated)-$5.00.Nice bill from what I see, definitely a keeper. Keep it flat. Hope this helps.
