It's really hard to say with that picture. The coin looks almost green, but looks in MS condition, has a sort of cartwheel present.... but without seeing it in hand I couldn't tell you.

Hard to tell from the low grade picture and funny color but I am going with fake. It just doesn't look right to me. Here is a picture of a real one.

This is another one of those wonderful coins that can be fairly easy to authenticate or at least eliminate the possibility of a bad fake. Put is on a scale, the weight of a proper coin is right there on it- 30 GRAMOS

Given the color and odd appearance of the denticles and rim, I would say it is an underweight fake on inferior metal.

I believe I have two authentic 1947 Cinco Pesos, 30 Gramos, Ley 0.900, Mo. that I found in my fathers things today. I know he and my mother traveled to Mexico back in 1952 or so. And from what I read earlier.....no, magnets do not stick to my coins One feels a little heavier than the other. How do I find out what they are worth?
I also weighed them and they are 30 grams each. Can I polish them or will that reduce their worth?

I have seen a number of counterfeit 5 Pesos 1947, but it's hard to tell from that pic. All of the fakes were very underweight (between 20-25 grams) and magnetic. If it passes those tests, then yours is most likely real.

And oh by the way, in case you missed the earlier posts, DON'T POLISH OR CLEAN THE COINS. If you do you will remove any numismatic value and be left with 30 grs of .900 silver.

I just bought some fake Mexican coins 7/25/2015 at a little outdoor Flea market in Franklin, NC by Zaxby's. I did not have a magnet with me and took a chance, but I found out later.
