Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, Ptolemy II, Philadelphos, 285 - 246 B.C.Ptolemy II served as co-ruler with his elderly father from 284 - 282 B.C. On his father's death, he became sole ruler. Coins were struck with date Year 1, beginning in 283 B.C. Successive dates followed. Midway through the reign, a shift in the regnal dating occured. Years 17 and 18 were skipped. This coin is dated from 20 years into the joint reign. 19467. Silver tetradrachm, Svoronos 649, SNG Cop 486, aVF, 13.944g, 28.3mm, 0o, Tyre mint, 262 B.C.; obverse diademed head of Ptolemy I right wearing aegis; reverse ΠΤΟΛΕΜÎ'ΙΟΥ BÎ'ΣΙΛΕΩΣ, eagle standing left on thunderbolt, Tyre monogram over club left, ligate KÎ" (= year 24) right; banker's marks on reverse
