Hello,
I just bought a coin today in an antique store; I'm told it's Roman, and not a reproduction, but I want to be sure. I'm not a collector, so I don't know anything about these coins. And if the coin is real, I'm also wondering what exactly it is.

Like I said, I don't know anything about coins, so I haven't tried to clean it or anything yet.

It looks real to me, as a quick guess I would suggest Elagabalus or maybe Antoninus Pius.

Sure an expert can confirm or deny this.

to the community.

It is a real Roman Provinical coin that does appear to be Elagablaus. I like the outline effect around the bust, leave it a lone and don't try and clean the coin

Do you guys think this is what it is?
I couldn't find it on the Wildwinds site, but the Antioch ones looked the most like mine and I found this on a different forum.

And also, not to sound dimwitted, what exactly does the 'Antioch' part mean? If it is what I think, it's where the coin was made?
And thank you for the help(:

Yes, "Antioch" means it's a Provincial coin, from the city of Antioch in what is now southern Turkey.

The coinage system in the early Roman Empire was not a unified whole; gold and silver coins were struck in just a few cities and distributed out from those, while the striking of bronze coins was the responsibility of local city authorities.

The large letters "SC" on Roman Imperial bronze coins stands for "senatus consulto", by order of the Senate. On the bronze coins of Antioch, however, it's the Senate of Antioch and not the Senate of Rome that's doing the ordering.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
