This is the strangest coin I have ever found. I got it in my change. I thought I was done picture taking to night, but I have to post this. I think I've seen a qurter similar to this here. It's a P 1988 dime. It looks sandwiched. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. Thanks for looking.

I took this dime down to the coin shop and asked the owner (a really friendly guy and helpful guy) what happened to this coin. My thoughts were that this dime came from the mint the way it is. It turns out this coin was tooled. That dime had been split open and then an observe and reverse were were sandwiched in between a piece of metal. I thought that the rim had accidentally been left out. Ha ha!! Stupid I know. But that's what I thought.

I hope no one thought this is something that I had done myself and then posted on this forum. I don't play those sort of games. I am here to acquire knowledge and share what I can with other collectors on this forum.

Relax thingee I don't believe any one thing of such a thing in regards to you or for the lot of us anyway. I have never actually seen one but I understand that there is a following for what they call Magician's coins which will say are tooled as well and maybe a Mexican coin tooled with an American coin.

Hi Thingee don't worry we all get fooled from time to time. I once found an old coin dated 1752 and went on a mad search on the net to find out what it was. I thought I had some thing special but it turned out to be a readers digest replica of an Austrian Ducat!! Man did I feel silly

Thank you guys. I feel better already! Nevertheless this dime is interesting and a keeper. It's also my first counterfeit coin. I think.
