Damn, you saw through my ploy Thanks for the pics NickleHalfDime, even if it's just the coins

Did you just order the 5 in the pic or did you get the 10 max?

What do you think of them now that you've got them in your hands?

First pics by NickleHalfDime!! Thanks for posting.
I see more than 5 coins in the picture Hawk026. NickleHalfDime said he got 10 in his post.
Tell us what you think of them in hand NickleHalfDime (and make it controversial - this thread is becoming boring :P).

The coin looks MUCH better in hand than it did on the website. It makes me wonder why they didn't put a better image of it on the website.

Overall I'm very satisfied with the coin. The mirrored finish on The Queen vs. the non mirrored background always looks great on silver coins. The obverse is simply stunning. The simplistic design with HM surrounded by a thin circle and E.II D.G Regina written in a non overbearing yet stand-out fashion is just the way I like it. That said, in terms of the reverse design I'm satisfied aside from a few issues (but I felt this way even before receiving the coin).

1. I wish the coin was bigger. It's a nice coin and this is the size I was expecting. I just can't help but feel as though they should have made it 1/3oz and about the diameter of a toonie. No biggie, just my humble opinion.

2. I like the maple leaves, but it looks nothing like a "C" to me, as the mint claims. Doesn't make it ugly, I'm just saying. It would have been cool if they had dome something like this with the reverse of the coin:

I use the 1908-1998 version of the 50c rather than simply 1908 because I'm trying to stick within the NCLT realm.

It would have been interesting if they had the maple leaves wrap around the coin on both sides as in the old wreath style design with the crown above. That symbolizes the strength of Canada more than a quasi-C design. Just my humble opinion.

Overall I do not regret my purchase. Very, very happy.

My camera is expected to be fixed by the middle of next week. Perhaps I will take the opportunity to dabble in coin photography.

That's my review, folks. Look forward to reading the impressions of others.

I got home from work and found a delivery card sitting in my mail box so I ran off to the post office to pick up my package as I was pretty sure I knew what it was

The reverse proof design on the coin looks so much better in person than any of the pics I've seen, but like NickleHalfDime said, the only thing I would have liked better is if the coin was a little largere......maybe the size of a modern commemorative silver dollar.

Here's two quick pics of one of the coins that I took out of the capsule.....I know my pics won't do the coin justice so we'll have to wait for canadian_coins to post up some pics of his coins when he gets them.

Wow, I must admit, that is a nice design, I really like the proof-like finish on the leaves.

Any chance these can be orders by folks in the US?

Can't get them from the canadian mint shipped to the USA. You could take your chances on ebay, or get someone here to sell you a few. Shipping is going to be a pain, though.

harison2, the mint site states the coin is only available to Canadians, but should be able purchase one if you can have it shipped to a friend or relative with a Canadian address and then have them forward it to you. I'm pretty sure that's what canadian_coins did and he's in the USA.

That's correct I ordered the coins but had to put a Canadian address for delivery... So I won't get mine until sometime after eternity.

Nice looking coin. What about the thickness? I suspect it isn't as thick as what the Mint picture shows.

It was pretty difficult to judge the thickness from the RCM site as you only got a brief glimpse as you flipped the coin.

Held edge to edge, I'd say it might just be a hair thicker than a Twoonie.

NickleHalfDime: Thanks for the review! Good write-up.
Hawk026: Thanks for the pictures - they look very good (not in relation to the coin grading scale :P), and so does the coin.

I put 2 orders of 5 coins in. First set of 5 shipped on Tuesday, second set shipped yesterday. My wife just called today saying I got some packages she had to sign for! Can't wait to get home from work.
