canadian_coins, hopefully your coins have already been shipped out and the note only applies to new orders.

Hawk, my coins have been shipped to a Canadian relative... which means I won't see them for a while longer. Bummer.

I noticed J&M is selling the coin for $21 - not bad. But credit card payments are not accepted (due to the cc fees I presume).

PS. I do not receive kickbacks from J&M.

I just received an interesting e-mail from the Royal Canadian Mint (see below for a copy and paste)

Coin experts await your coin questions

Treasured for their rarity, historic significance and craftsmanship, the Royal Canadian Mint has been producing some of the world's most stunning coins since 1908.

While we always do our best to share the story and specifications of every coin we make, we now invite you to ask us a question about any of our 2010 or 2011 coins. Ask us virtually anything and your question -- along with an answer from our team of experts -- could be featured on mint.ca.

For the opportunity to have your question answered, keep these guidelines in mind:

Question Guidelines:

1. Questions should be clear and a maximum of 25 words.
2. All questions will be reviewed by March 4, 2011 and answers to selected questions will be published on mint.ca, as well as various other Royal Canadian Mint communications, beginning March 14, 2011.
3. By submitting your question, you authorize the Royal Canadian Mint to answer, use, reproduce, modify, adapt, translate, distribute, publish, create derivative works from and publicly display in its communications programs -- i.e. web, email, print etc.

Ask your question now at my2cents@mint.ca

Let's see if I get an answer to my question;

Hello, I was hoping you could provide some clarification regarding the "Legal Tender" status of the 2011 $20 Fine Silver Commemorative Coin.

I say do it.

Maybe if they get enough of the same question they may actually provide a response..........that or they'll just ban us all from their site

Got my three today.
Came in a big box that would hold two Charlton's,postage included tracking. My wife sent a package this size to our granddaughter and paid about $20 for postage.
Surprisingly nice coins, well struck, brilliant mirror devices, frosted fields.Much better quality than I was expecting.
Popped one out of the airtite and headed out.Went to Tim's and Petro neither one wanted it instead of a $20 bill, but a customer offered $20 for it.

It was probably the first time they saw this coin and did not want to assume the responsibility (reprimand) from their boss for taking a fake from a scammer... Wait till it shows up on the 5 O'clock news. Things might change.

> I noticed J&M is selling the coin for $21

Which brings up an interesting questions:

(1) Is it available to dealers?
(2) What is their cost?
(3) How could a discounted legal tender be managed?

Vinnycoin,I did not sell it,I only popped one coin out of its packaging to try and spend.
Took my coin to Crappy Tire and other stores yesterday, none would accept it,but it seemed to generate a lot of interest wherever I went.
Last stop was at the Royal Bank,I asked if they would take it in exchange for $20. The teller hadn't seen one these before so she would have to get someone else to assist me.There were no other customers in the bank so the tellers all had a look at it while we were waiting and concluded that I should keep it because it was a nice looking coin.
The expert arrived and said that the bank buys silver and gold coins based solely on their precious metal content, and this service is only available Monday to Friday while markets are open.I said the coin has only about $7 worth of silver so I would be happy to get the $20 face value for it.She agreed that all the other silver coins were exchanged for more than face value so she went to the Mint's website to confirm the silver content, and yes,the silver content is less than the face value. In the end she said she could not accept the coin until she had a directive from head office to exchange it for face or they set a bullion value for it.
Back in my pocket it went.

DBM, that's quite a story.

I wonder how merchants reacted when they saw the first playing card from Intendant Demeulle back in 1685.

Great story DBM! I've heard of others doing similar things and the general consensus was that you can easily bring this to a bank to redeem for face value! Will be interesting to see if others try.

Are they still selling like hotcakes on the ebay? or as the hype subsided?
