Found this in the trash today along with 6 or 7 WWII foreign notes. Have no idea anything about these so here it is...

So is it real or a copy?

Interesting in any info you guys may have about this.

If real, what is it approx. value?

Thanks

I suspect that if this were of the period, the signatures wouldn't be printed in the same type of ink as the rest of the note. It looks very white to be 100+ years old. Novelty item perhaps?

So ends my uneducated guess.

The good news is, 50 cents 1863 #24930 is not mentioned on the list of serial numbers of bogus CSA notes. On that basis, I would assume it's genuine unless someone can give definite proof that it isn't.

Looks good to me. Nice it doesn't have a cacellation cut in/through it. That note, if the real deal, was never redeemed.

The paper, and the printing technique are appropriate to the 1860's. I'm very inclined to say it's real, and that's saying something, since it's paper. That's a great find!

Libertad, this was one of the two Confederate notes that had printed signatures, vs. hand signed.

The bill will take quite a ding value-wise from the condition. However, these notes were hand cut, and this example has beautiful margins, which help.

The value will also vary a bit due to geography. I'd figure probably $15-20 retail outside of the south, about $5 more in the south. I'm giving it a VG-20, overall. (and for you coin people, VG-F-12+ roughly)

I'm still stuck on the "found it in the trash" part of the post.

Working at a recycling center does have it perks. It is simply amazing what people throw away. Most of my coin collection has come from money that I get from selling "junk" on ebay.
