Hi:
I'm looking for info on varieties of silver quarters.
Are there any not listed in Charlton?

Every year, Charlton puts a variety section for a different denomination in the back of the book. It's by no stretch of the imagination a comprehensive list .. just popular, rare, or collected ones. You want the 2008, 62nd edition of Charlton that had 25 cents in it.... you may even be able to get a used one at a bookstore or library sale .. or ebay. The latest 2011 edition (65th) has Victoria Large Cents only. Good luck

North of 49,

I recommend you the 1953 and the 1955 Hub Doubling ( the same doubling for these two pieces ).

In the " World Coin News " January 2009, Ken Potter describe the 1955 : " The doubling is strong on the date and in several areas of the caribou design including the anthers and area above the strongly doubled designer initial,H. Strong doubling is also seen on the entire word CANADA, while moderate to strong doubling can be found on 25 CENTS. " And he add, below photos : " Look for evidence of hub doubling.....on this 1955 Canadian 25-cent piece ".

In the Charlton, 65th Edition, I see only " 1955 DD , Included ( Mintage ) ".

No price for these coins in the trends of CCN, but I see : " 25 cents 1955, Dbl Die Reverse, Rare ".

Good luck !

There are tons of very expensive varieties in the quarters from 1870 to 1900.
some of them are very scarce and really hard to find in any condition. then there is the elusive 1906 small crown.....
try and get one without taking out a loan..
good luck.

North of 49, you say :

" I'm looking for info on varieties of silver quarters.

1- You have some indications from hhbkiddo ( 1870 to 1900 )

2- From 1900-1967, you can find informations, in the book of M.K.Blais " Price Guide for Canadian Coins - Professional Edition, 2011, 6th edition. "
As example the following varieties are listed :

- 1932 Double 932 + CANADA

- 1933 Double 1933

- 1935 Double 1935

- 1937 Double HP & IND & IMP

- 1947 ML Large

Thanks, this is just the sort of info I was looking for. Looks like I'll be off to the book store this weekend, and then I have a lot of coins to re-check.
