Today the Mint introduce 3 new commemorative coins: $5 Gold, $1 Silver, and a clad. All have different designs. I like the gold the best then the clad and last the silver. I asked the Mint today if they were going to put the three coins into a 3coin presentation but at this point they have no plans of doing that.
What coins do you think you will collect? What do you think of the designs?

I like the Gold one a lot. The other 2 are kinda "meh" to me. I inherited a lot of modern commemoratives from my grandmother. I went and looked at what they've release, and really there's only a few cool looking ones to me, the mint seems to miss the mark on most. I liked The dolly Madison one, The Jackie Robinson ones, Lief Erickson. For every Dolly Madison though, there's a Cripus Attucks, Special Olympics, and Library of Congress, etc. I'm a big fan of the modern Buffalo coins too, but that's probably because I like the Buffalo nickel. I'd rather buy a 2011 ASE than the new commemorative silvers. The gold is tempting, but it'll probably be ridiculously price compared to other bullion choices.

I don't want to come across the wrong way... but this series seems like a political fire cracker. Enacted during Bush within the last days of his term, when the international situation was unpopular. The coins do not celebrate an anniversary and seem to be a mere afterthought or "Oh, by the way". The set compares a revolutionary era figure on one coin to battle ready troops who were involved in "world wide deployment".
Also, the image of soldiers building a flood wall seems like it would stir up a lot of emotions after Katrina.
I'm not expressing my own political views here, just pointing out what seems to be the obvious.

I will be getting the silver and the clad can't afford the gold. Think they missed their chance at a really inspiring coin.

I like the reverse of the half dollar and the obverse of the gold coin. I may buy the half dollar at some point. I rarely buy gold coins.

here is a link to a thread that was started a few months ago when they released the designs of the coins and what everyone thought about the designs at that time https://goccf.com/t/76668

Thank you Bryan for the link to the previous forum. I tend to agree with the majority of those that gave their opinion on this subject that the coins are a miss and that is a shame because it is an important subject. Although it is odd that they are commemorating the 236th year of the arm service. I will probably order the proof silver from this series and match that up with the proof silver from the "Medal of Honor" series which can be ordered later this month. I like the Medal of Honor series coins better they seem to be cleaner designs.
Thank you group you helped me make my decision in which to purchase.

I feel like I contradicted what I first wrote in the forum that I did not like the Silver design of the Army commem but yet I am buying that coin. Well it is true that I am not crazy about the design I feel it is an important coin to have. I do not collect gold commems except for the Buffalo and I do have a collection of silver commems. My decision at first was to buy all three coins (Gold, Silver and Clad) but I felt that is too much. I am hoping on purchasing the ATB 5 oz quarters that the Mint will release in proof condition later this year, hopefully soon.
