Cutting to the chase ... I posted about 20 Morgans on ebay last week, one being the 1878-S VAM 77 I picked last year. Just across town (pop 25,000) a guy who hadn't checked ebay for a long time decided out of the blue to search "1878-S VAM" and voila, my 77 showed up on the page and he had to have it. He won the coin and when I saw where he lived I mentioned to him in the invoice that I could hand-deliver it to him. He agreed and yesterday I stopped by his shop.

Turns out he's been Vamming for about 14 years and is the co-author (with Leroy Van Allen) of the 1878-S Attribution Guide. We talked at length about that endeavor and many more '78 related topics. I just can't believe there's another 1878 freak in the same small town.

That is incredibly cool!

Did you mention CCF to him by chance? Just asking.

I didn't get around to that topic. There will be other encounters and I will make it a point to mention this community.

I can imagine that the discussion was not even long enough to cover everything regarding the 1878, let alone the Community.

Cool, I would love to have someone like Craig live near me, even though I had never heard of him until the book came out. I think its cool that you two live close together and share the same interests. I am sure you two will probably stay in contact with each other and talk coins, I know if I had someone near me like that I would talk to them as much as possible because I don't have anyone to talk coins to except for on this forum

I know y'all probably have a picture in your mind about what Craig looks like ... someone you see on the bourse with a pocket protector and strangely dressed for the season. He's a sheet-metal worker, big burly and a face-full o' hair. I would have never pictured he and Leroy collaborating on that project Just goes to show ... don't judge a book by it's cover ... right Scooby?
