Hi everyone, A bit of background: I mostly collect US coins, and feel like I can spot a fake silver coin, so I rarely weigh them (but I'm going to weigh more now) I do always weigh and measure any gold though, and I use a gun/firearm reloading scale that is accurate to .1 grains (.0064 gram), in other words, really accurate. Gold bullion is usually within one grain, even from different countries, so I'm used to coins that I weigh being on the money. Now... I recently bought quite a few Canadian dollars in au/bu condition from 1964-1967. Since I am unfamiliar with them, I decided to weigh them. My questions is, it seems like we have a rather big range of weights, anywhere from 354.5 grains to 363 grains. That is 22.97 grams to 23.52 grams. Is that an acceptable range of weights for legit coins, or should I go further with a fake check? They do ring nicely, an look like quality strikes, I'm just not an expert on these. Thanks so much! The Charlton Catalogue of 2009 shows the weight of these from 64-67 as 23.33 grams. I will check to see if the Silver Dollars I have seem to mirror yours in weight differences. If anyone else could jump in and try their dollar coins, please help. I will be busy for a while, so I may not get at it for a couple of days.

great, thanks. Yeah, 23.33 was what I was expecting. As you can see we are as much as about 1% over, and 1.5% under....not crazy, but more than I was expecting from a govt' mint. Thanks for checking if you can!

Here are some examples that I weighed, 1960 - 23.18, 1961 - 23.40, 1962 - 23.29, 1964 - 23.43, 1965 - 23.22, 1966 - 23.23, and 1967 - 23.26, all in grams. Hope this helps, I see I don't have a 1963, I will have to correct that.

Hmm, Those are more consistent than mine....I got a couple that were 23.5 grams. The lower ones could be because they may not be BU, but they don't look like they have any wear either.... Thanks for checking! I'm going to post a few pics in a little while...

OK, here is the 1964, it weighs 23.48 grams. I know the scan isn't perfect, but it is the best I can do. It is just from my flatbed scanner: 64CanadaDollarOb by jhf1621, on Flickr 64CanadaDollarRev by jhf1621, on Flickr
