I have a lot of 90% silver coins that just look dirty. Is there a safe way to make them not look so disgusting?

An acetone rinse is safe. Be sure to remove all the acetone with cool running water and pat dry.

An Arc Welders torch has been known to really remove all sorts of dirt on anything. Butane torches work almost as well.
Or just don't clean them. If you really feel it is necessary, just dip in Acetone. Check the tab at the top of the page for SEARCH and type in Acetone for all the ways to be done.

Hardware stores have it, usually with the paints. Just read the label and make sure it is 100% pure acetone.

Rinse lightly with distilled water, rinse/dry with acetone then store them properly.

DON'T CLEAN THEM, this is called conservation.

I hear acetone, then distilled water.

Then I hear distilled water, then acetone.

Which is it?

Acetone last. It evaporates very quickly and if pure it will leave nothing behind.

Water takes longer to dry. Unless it is pure water, there is always something in it that will be left behind when it evaporates (think water spots on a car or window).

This is why you should always do a final rinse with clean acetone after using acetone to remove something from the coin (what is removed can be redeposited when it drys).
