Hi,

Looks like I stumbled again on a coin copy (that one may be an ancient copy though, the coin look great)
What tipped me off are the coin edges, they are smooth (no pattern on them, but they are not that smooth as the coin have been used for a while apparently)
Am I correct ?
Cannot remove the coin from its holder (I'll ship it back) - here is the coin itself (I know the seller, he is usually serious) :

And here are datas I found (not sure about the translation for 'milled') :

Thanks !

Hum, I'm still wondering :)
From your picture, everything look fine (same thing if I compare with the other link I posted)
For now, the issue I have is the weight difference, and the edge. I asked the seller if I could open the coin's packaging - I'll check more precisely.
For a replica, the coin looks darn good, and it don't look like all the recent chinese crap.

What about the edges, how are yours ? They should have the square + circle pattern, no ?

Hmmm.... I really don't think you're going to have two circulated coins that old, with matching rim dings, and wear...

MathieuMa The coin in the first picture is clearly a replica - the design is NOT correct. Look at the details around the King's eye and especially the shapes of the mouth and nose. If it has a plain edge that is also VERY WRONG. All of the Spanish issues had edges with patterns meant to discourage clipping and shaving.

The coin is obviously a Numismatic fraud.

OK, that's pretty clear to me now :D

Thanks for all !
I now understand why some collect coins copies - they are easier to find than real ones :p

Hi,

Spent a few minutes this morning with the picture of the coin and the picture of the one I linked (from coin database)
It's fun to play the 7 differences with those (easier with photoshop by putting them one over the other and showing/hiding the coin) - eyes, noze, smile, hairlines, stuff in the air, dress design ... many differences actually :)

I suppose that coin is an old copy (not a recent chinese one), and oddly it's not cast from a regular one (we wouldn't see those differences, or the guy doing those spent time fixing his not-so-perfect cast ?)

Here they are, side by side :)
