Hi all:

I'm new to coin collecting and have started looking through pocket change and bank rolls to teach myself the basics.

Does anyone know dealers who will buy rolls of Washington 1983P Quarters, old Jefferson nickels and wheat pennies? I know most dealers will buy silver-content pieces but was hoping to find a few who would purchase other stuff as well.

Many thanks on a great board.

Hi Hookshot

Welcome to the forum !!

I think dealers are all different,, you will find those who like to deal in coins like you have mentioned, but their buy prices will be much different from the collecting community.

are the 83-P quarters in original rolls or are they circulated examples? if they are circulated and below AU they probly would not interest most dealers,, wheaties are another coin which alot of dealers get alot of and prices can vary greatly from 1 1/2 cent per coin to maybe 3 cents each on the high side.

The Jeffersons have a fair following among collectors but to be of interest to dealers , high grade and silver war issues would be the basics.

stick around and meet the 50 post requirement here and offer these coins to the forum,, We are collectors !!

Thanks Rick:

I appreciate the info. The 1983Ps are from circulation -- the Num. Grey sheet lists them at $2.30 in "Good" condition so I was hoping dealers would actually pay around $1 for them.

I wish there was an accurate source out there that would not only give an approximate wholesale value of coins but also indicate if dealers would actually want them (at least in rolled amounts).

Thanks again!

I have seen rolls of the 1983P's go for $12 a roll in circulated condition on ebay. I save the better cond. circulated ones only because in the lower grades they are plentiful and won't bring much of a premium. Common wheat cents usually sell for $2.50 a roll. It just depends on the condition and years of the nickels.

Kind of depends on where you live, if you trust and know how to use ebay, have coin dealers in your area, etc. What you may want to do is just type in coin shows, your state in the internet and see if there are any coin shows near you. In Illinois for instance there is at least one every weekend in the area. There is at least 3 coin shows withing 12 miles of my house. If you go to a coin show you could 1. learn about your coins 2. sell your coins 3. have fun and meet coin collectors and dealers 4. spend a lot of money you really shouldn't be spending. Also, just check out buisness search for coin dealers in your town or nearby towns. We have them all over the place. Another method is as already stated, sell them to someone here.
