Okay, I've been roll searching and being in Washington State, I get my share of Canadian cents in the rolls. Enough to were I decided to go to the Gray side and start a Canadian cent collection from circulation. I finally got me the Whitman folders and discovered something I did not know. That there is more than one mint for the modern cent. I have looked at the coins I have for the albums and do not see a mint mark on any of them, atleast I don't think I see it. So the question is, where is the location of the mint mark and what does it look like? Edited by KenRingold 02/08/2011 5:57 pm

Canadian circulation cents are minted in Winnipeg,Manitoba. Small cents had no mint marks until 2002 when a P appeared beneath the queen. In 2006 a mint logo appeared under the queen.

Thanks realpenny great page. I bookmarked it. But it brought up another question. The cents with the RCM mark, where do they go? There is only two spots, blank and "P". Also, when you put them in the folder, do you place them heads up, or date up? Also there is no place for the 2001 W cent. Why?

Hi ! You will find coin with no mark, with a "P" or with " RCM" logo. It have some with "W" but not in circulation I thing. AS I know it don't have 2001 "W" it's maybe for that reason that I don't have any space lol I prefer to place them face up but you can make on other side if you want... Thanks !

The " RCM" logo only started in 2006. In 2006 there were the no mintmark, "P" and " RCM" varieties. From 2007 forward, there is only the " RCM" variety (they got rid of the no mintmark and "P" varieties). From my experience with Whitman folders, usually the date side goes up. Years ago there used to be another slot to show an example of the head/obverse. The 2001W is probably not included in the Whitman folder because there are no circulation strikes. It is found only in mint sets.

Hmmm only two spots for 2006. So then I take it that the Winnipeg mint would be comparable to the San Francisco mint. Proofs only. The "P" does not represent a mint location, but rather that the coin is plated. 2007 on, still has holes for the "P", so I'll need a magnet to determine those. Next questions. How is the cent doing? Is there, or going to be, a 2011 cent, or has it been eliminated yet, or have they changed their minds about that?

Quote: The W denotes collector coins struck in Winnipeg,it only happened in a few years. What years was the cent minted there and do you know the mintages? Also, when and if I get serious enough, are these to be sot out for? Quote: Proofs, and other collector coins were struck at Ottawa. Do these have their own mint mark?

I believe there are only two years with the W mint mark...1998 and 2000. In 2003 there was a WP mint mark. All of these were only available in sets.

From 1998-2006 cents get a little messy. If you look at the mintage column from that site you will understand what is circulation or not.
