Hello,
I intend to buy a new detector soon and would like to hear any comments on what you like/dislike about your detector, what you would recommend, etc. Here is what I'm looking for:

good depth (would like 12" for coins/ring size objects). Easy operation. Ability to pinpoint and discriminate good. Easy to read display.

I currently have a Garrett GTA 350 that I am using. It works well - Im' just wondering if there isn't some slghtly better technology out there right now. My detector is abt 12 yrs old. I want to move a bit higher technology-wise than what I have right now. I did a bit of reading and the Garrett GTP1350 doesn't look like a bad deal.

I have abt $500-600 to spend and want to buy a new machine.

I think you are right on the money with the 1350. I have had the GTI 1500 for about 8 years and am very happy with it. So I guess, In my opinion, you can't really go wrong with any Garrett machine.

You might want to consider the AT Pro its in your budget range and its Garrett's latest technology. It will require a little re-training from your 350. Its the one I aspire to having tried and rejected the GTI2500.

Well, I just sold my GTA abt 2 hours ago. Man, I could have sold 10 of those things with all the calls/emails I got. Makes me wonder if I should have kept it. I hope I don't end up being sorry.
i did keep my big coil as it will fit the GTP1350 if that's what I end up getting.

Maybe I should just try to get my White's 6/DBH fixed and use that again. it's like 35 yrs old

Maybe you could sell it as an antique? You might get some good money for it on ebay.

There aren't too many detectors out there that will locate coins at 12" depths, and surely not in the $5-$600 range. All my detecting friends run Minelab, myself included. I ran a White's DFX for 2 years and now I consider it good for tot-lots. Hope I'm not offending anyone here, but my finds increased tenfold when I started swinging the ML. I really ticked-off my buds when we'd go out hunting and I was the one walking out with the silver every time.

Tesoro user here. No fancy displays, no nifty programmable chipsets, just solid performance at an affordable price.

I have a 18 year old Whites Eagle Spectrum with a nice set of coils. I have a "Rain Coat" for it with 19", 12", 8", 6" and 3.5" coils. It's a blast to get a good hit. It shows you what coin you have and the depth up to 12". I want to get a Wand spotter to go with it. Lot's of coins found over all these years, no coins over $20 in value, but always fun. Found a friends lost wedding band in his front yard after playing football.

Best finds a 20K Diamond Ring with 25 diamonds and a 1oz 18K gold round with Jesus carved into the face.

Biggest find was a '61 Chevy Station Wagon buried 6 inches deep sticking nose up in sand at a creek. I kept getting the message "OVERLOAD" on that one.

I love to see "Silver Dollar" spelled out across the screen.

It also ignores scrap iron and Coke cans.

Cost was high at $799, but all the other coils and extra were free. I think the new version is about $1200, but man are they nice.

I have a Minelab Quattro MP and it gets excellent depth on stock 10.5" coil....Minelab is all about R&D and they pave the way for other detector companies. I wouldn't trust any other brand or any other technology. My detector was $400 used....and that's a bargain! Good luck!
