Then, I realized that not all of my USB ports are 2.0

I did the same thing, the rear ports don't work, you have too use the front ones( on mine)

I took a white candle stick and melted a layer of wax over the L.E.D.'s, being very careful not to get any on the lens. It worked extremely well

Wouldn't the LED lights melt the wax? You will have too let us know what happens.

mcshilling, I had it hooked up for over an hour. The wax gets warm, but not warm enough to melt. L.E.D.'s take far less energy to work. I'm sure that a normal bulb would cause issues with the wax. I did take that into consideration before using wax in that manor. So far, so good.

Also, I used a Sharpie and covered just the top of the wax that is built up directly over each L.E.D. That seemed to also tone down the glare from the light. Kind of like blocking the sun from your eyes by holding your hand up. The wax would be kind of like sun glasses I suppose. Anyhoo, It was cheap and it works without having to invest much time into it.

Hope this helps someone else too.

Also, if you're planning on using the "cones" that comes with the zOrb, you might have to be a little more cautious of where the wax goes. I don't plan on using them so it wasn't a big deal to me.

Jay I have found it best not to use the cones, you can get a lot closer.

I hear ya. I am in the process of making an adapter to use the zOrb with my tripod. I think it will work quite well. Should take any fuzziness out by keeping the zOrb as still as possible while taking the photo. All I have left to do is make a holder for the zOrb and it's finished.

I messed around with the cones a little bit and decided I didn't need them. I think the set-up I'm working on will be more than adequate for my needs.

Take a dixie cup (2 1/4" tall), cut out the bottom, place the small end over your coin, place the zOrb in the other end . . .voi la!

THIS WAS NOT MY IDEA. SOMEONE POSTED IT IN THIS FORUM BEFORE ME. I"M JUST PASSING IT ALONG.
