I tried to PM the guy who had that lighthouse magnifier for sale on the selling boards but never got a response. I was curious what is the best way to get nice pictures to post here, or on ebay for coins.

I have some questions on some coins but right now I can't get a clear picture to save my life, and I also found a couple error coins and I have no interest in error coins, so I would like to try to sell them to buy more coins that I do enjoy collecting.

I use a digital microscope for my pix. Some are inexpensive (subjective term) You can get really close on the coin. Much better than cell phones or other digital cameras. There are many free photo editing sites to work with.

That is the one I have wanted for a long time now. Saw them at Walmart around Christmas a few years ago for a really cheap price. But sold out. Someone said B&H has them but expensive. Those would really make it easy rather than a camera or scanner.

rkrj, if you don't have an interest in error coins and want to take good pictures for forums and ebay that detail color and luster of the entire coin...then I would recommend against getting a microscope camera. You're defeating the purpose of a microscope if you're trying to zoom out to get a pic of the entire coin.

I would recommend a DSLR camera. Not only will your coin pictures be superior to what a microscope camera can produce, but when you have enough megapixels on your camera, you can get extremely close to errors and details...and besides, cameras are multi-purpose and can be used for other activities other than just coins...many even take video.

IMO, the bottom line is that microscopes have 1 primary purpose. In fact, if you need a microscope to see an error and can't view it with the naked eye or a 10x loupe, or view it in a magnified camera image; is it really an error?
