So I went to the FUN show in Tampa and had a pretty decent haul. The only die variety I bought for resale there was a PCI slabbed MS67RD 1995 DDO for $50. I noted that the coin was virtually mark-free and that it was an early die state - very sharp example...so I took a chance on it with PCGS, hoping it would at least cross to a PCGS MS67RD holder. Well, the news came back yesterday evening that PCGS graded it MS68RD...Really cool!! So now I have a $190 coin for $50 plus an $18 grading fee! Woot!

Nice work! That's a really strong grade bump for a PCGS crossover!
I guess it doesn't hurt to have one of the best eye's in the business either -ha ha!

If I recall correctly, you said you were expecting it to come back MS68RD. Good eye!
Although, you don't strike me as the type to get coins slabbed. Are you going to sell it?

A couple of things...
I sort-of mis-spoke when I said "cross" - I actually cracked the coin out of the PCI holder and submitted it raw. I was hoping for MS68RD, but would have accepted MS67RD. Of course we all hope for the most lofty grade possible for a coin.
Scooby is very insightful - after more than 30 years of collecting, this coin was part of a group of coins that went in as my first-ever submission to a grading company. I have NEVER had coins slabbed before this experience. I actually sent the coins in with a friend under his name, so still I don't show in the record keeping books of any grading company.
And yes, I do plan to sell it. It will go for $200 delivered to the first taker. Reason I am so high on the price is because this is a very hammered-strike early die state coin, and is very superbly clean - quite scarce for this die.

Nice pick ! I guess that proves that some of lesser TPG's do have their benefits on occasionThat's why I never pay attention to the holders. I just look at the coins, and I look at all of them. I also bought a 1949P cent in a NTC MS67 holder for $4 that I knew was relly nice. It went in to PCGS as well as a number of other coins, and it came back MS66RD from PCGS. That's a $300 coin.

Double whammy And I can just see lots of minds churning right now and we'll see a million PCI & NTC's posted for grading next week....you might want to add a disclaimer :Don't try this without expert supervision.
