I'm very sorry to hear this, Teena. You're not likely to get a refund, having cracked the coins out - the seller can easily claim you're returning the wrong coins.

Thanks Dave. I'll keep you posted. ebay does have seller protection, and they have been on my side in the past. Keeping my fingers crossed that my past experiences with them will pay off. Wish they'd kick this guy off of ebay. Some poor folks must not know any better.

Regardless of the TPG, buy the coin and not the slab. A lot of items on ebay only show a wide picture of the slab without a close-up of the coin. I just skip right by them, don't even give them a second look (maybe a second look if it's just a hole filler). Sure, a picture of the slab is good to show that it's graded as advertised by a reputable TPG, but you're buying the coin, so that's what you should look at.

Sometimes even a good TPG can get it wrong (high or low or with our without a special designation). Maybe the coin matches the technical grade, but it has more or less eye appeal than some other coins of the same grade.

You da man!

Oh, wait....

Anyways, in all honesty under normal circumstances I would not be happy with you having received a refund under these conditions. ebay finding in your favor after the coins were removed from their original holder greatly worries me as someone who sells more than buys on ebay.

But this is SGS we're talking about, and any victory against them is worth celebrating.

I can understand your frustration in that. However, I truly believe their refund to me was based on how I described the entire transaction. And the fact that he isn't a true coin grader such as NGC.

For some of the coins I could tell right off that they had blemishes, and others more distinct once I took them out. Along with dings on the edges of a few. And I was very careful taking each one out.

Not to worry.

I am genuinely happy for you.

The problem with that seller is, he's (I think) the largest coinseller on ebay, and responsible for some serious cash flow for them. He's gotten 93 Negatives in the last year, and toolhaus.org (Teena, if you haven't checked that site out yet, do so) hit their 1000-entry maximum for combined Negatives and Neutrals within the last 4 years.

So he's getting a Negative every 3 days.

As close to legally avoiding certifiably criminal as it gets - almost as bad as "Unsearched" rolls with special coins magically on the end(s.) SGS, IN MY OPINION - TRANSLATION: RUN!

Hello

I personally rate SGS: -10

I believe that there are more than a few professional numismatists within the forum that will concur with me.

I'm an NGC type of guy myself and I stay stick to the best when it comes to TPG. NGC, PCGS and ANACS is the way to go, ICG does a fair job as well and they're probably the least expensive route.

It is worthless and fraudulent to me. I would never sell a coin in that SGS holder because it would ruin your image.
