Sounds like the only decent offers were for the 1 oz rnds and ASE's. His other offers were crap especially for the Maria Theresas. "nobody wants them" pffff thats why they sell like crazy on ebay, I haven't even had a chance to get some yet because the bids go too high.

He wants to buy as low as you would allow, and probably sell as high as the future buyer can bear. It's the same here, profit rules the deal.

Quote:"instead of going to pawn shops or putting them on ebay another suggestion would to post them here or email providence metals and APMEX to see what you can get." Thanks Bryan 1234, Another 100+ post and I would post them here, I'll be there soon! I did not know about the other two companies, I will check them out and see what they offer, Thanks again.

Quote: Don't dealers like this understand that we can go to a half dozen other places and that they also loose the "word-of-mouth" business? Oh well, such is life!
Some do and most don't. By WE you are thinking that everyone is like you and far, far from that is true. Just how many people do you know on Earth that you could tell something to that would hurt his buisness? Even if you could convince everyone on this forum to stay away from him, so what. And if everyone on this forum could tell everyone they know, so what? All just a minority of the population so anything said here for those types of dealers, is just not important to them. And they know that too. As examples of what I'm saying if you stick around here a lot you'll hear many slam that TV stuff called HSN. And if a few thousand people say horrible, I'll never use them. Again, think of the MILLIONS that do. On thos and many other coin forums you hear about how lousy Littleton is. Yet they have been in buisness for a long, long time. YES he well knows YOU could by things somewhere else for less but many others don't know that at all.

OK Just Carl, I can understand your negitive attitude, but I can tell you that I stay away from companies/businesses that have done my friends wrong. And even though the 2004 film "super Size Me" did not harm McD's business at all......Six weeks after the film premiered, McDonald's announced that it was eliminating the super size option, and was creating the adult happy meal. So SOME businesses listem to their customers and care.

This topic is called reality. We all think we are smart enough to buy and collect silver and gold and deserve a profit. It ain't so all the time. These buyers seek John Q. Public who is after fast cash. Fast sales on flatware sterling is 55% of current spot. Gold is more stable but still only 21-23 dollars a gram. Most dealers want to make at least 30 to 40 percent profit and they can not sell it for spot. The reality is that if you want to get the most bang for your buck list it on ebay or if you can wait list it on Webstore.com its free.

Before knocking dealers, learn the market. Back in 1980, spot silver $42, I could get $50 from other dealers for 1 oz art bars, by the thousand if I could get them. Why? Newspaper "experts" were advising Clewless Gnubee™ investors to take physical delivery, and small bars would be easier to sell. Guy brought in an ugly silver bar. All it said was KPM .999 fine 100 oz and a little map of KY. We bought it, no one else would even offer. We were buying sterling at $5 an ounce from dealers. It was worth over $20, but refineries were beyond capacity with gold. If they took silver at all, you'd get paid in 90 days, based on the price at that future date. The further you get from 90% US coins, ASE or bars, the harder it is to sell. Lower grade alloy coins (clad, warnix, even Canadian 80%) the more the refinery charges to process it. I sold about 20 rolls of warnix to a reputable buyer for $18 a roll. The same day, another dealer mentioned he was paying $23! Sterling? No one is paying today's prices to make sets, and investors want 100 oz bars, not a bucketful of who-knows-what that has to be reweighed and recalculated every time you sell a piece. Fast forward to today. Here's a reputable dealer's public buy prices: 30.54 spot: .925 STERLING PER T.O. 20.16 (28.25 melt) .999 FINE SILVER 28.79 .999 FINE SILVER IN PLASTIC 28.74 (yep, 5¢ to cut them out) .999 FINE SILVER ENAM/ANTQ/GP 20.16 (ten bucks back! Why? He can sell a 999 bar in minutes for $31-32. All he can do with this stuff is sort it separately, pay extra to refine it, and pay to have it made into bars) Got some GF, HGE, GP, 20 year warranty watch cases to sell? An Internet search will find you mainly buyers telling you they don't buy it, even that it's worthless. I checked five local gold buyers with some herringbone chains and a 2.5 peso Mexican gold coin. Three of the five wouldn't offer on the coin, including one who specifies he buys gold coins. One said "well, there's not much gold there, anyway (about $100)". Offers ran from $495 to $735, with the lowest offer from the one that advertises they pay 30% more! I can imagine these people looking at gold teeth! Speaking of which, try finding a buyer of dental silver.

Ok, I'm not knocking Dealers, I'm not even knocking this dealer! If I wanna sell/trade some of my ASE's or Fancy Rounds/Bars I would go back to him because he offered a good price. What I am saying is I was very clear as to what I had to trade and what state it was in. I wished he would have told me then that he had no interest,(or maybe its just he had no knowledge), in "ugly silver bars" and Maria T's. Instead he said,"Bring um in! Let me take a look at them". Waisting my time and his!

One other point on this trade. You want to trade a bunch of odds and ends that has to be categorized and kept track of for a nice neat single coin that can be sold instantly. What's in it for him? He'd make you a much better deal if you took a bunch of broken karat rings and chains with one ounce of total gold content. Of course, you'd take a hit when you sell.

In parts of yurrup and Africa the fat lady bucks would be very popular. When you look at ebay prices, knock off the 15% or so that ebay gets, and the numbers don't look as good, and that's if you don't run across some scammer who figures out how to get them for free. Not to mention your time, etc.

I understand biggfredd. I think I was very clear that I wanted to trade misc. silver for one oz. of Gold. And he was equilly clear that he would give me his buying price on my silver and then I could buy one of his gold pieces. Now while I was there I saw three folks come in and buy silver from him in some form or another, ASE's, and two folks got rounds. But NO ONE came in for Gold, or was even looking at the gold counter! What I offered to him was a chance to move an item that is not selling now because it is on the fall, for a number of items that are selling right now because they are starting to rise! Basicly a plain and simple business deal. As for ebay, I think they take about 5% from the first $25 and about 3% of anything over that....... not 15%. But you are correct that there is shipping and Paypal......but that does not mean I should take $10 on a coin that gets $25 on ebay and that is fair!!

odentheviking, I think what this is really about is a guy that just doesn't have listening skills...you can talk all you want but they are thinking something else and not absorbing what you say. There are people like everywhere, even here...you post one thing and they go off in a completely different direction. Not much to do,except avoid.

It made me really laugh. Don't know how many times I've seen a post where someone asks something like what is this coin and after several replys we are up to how how much Gold is selling for. Or in Hungary Silver is used to make Bullets or something like that.

Thank you Maineman750, I understand. But I am really not trying to attack any dealers on here. I understand that they are trying to make a living and they have the right to pay what they want for any item, and charge what they want for any item. And takeing your advise.....that is all I have to say!
