So here's some news to me, but probably not to you guys. NGC takes photo's of their coins! I really like the idea, but my issues is the quality of NGC's photo's. Let me have you guys compare:

Who's photograph is more acurate? In this instance it's kind of important. NGC makes this coin look like an AU coin at best, but the ebay coin clearly looks like the MS66 that it's labled as. Just saying that if you're going to do it, do it right.

I will give them their props though - you can clearly tell this coin is legit just by looking at the mark on the cheek.

they have done that for a little while, I know ever since they changed to the slabs that shows the edge of the coin anyway. You can look up any newer NGC cert and it will show you a picture of the coin. I think PCGS should do it also since the counterfeiters have gotten smart enough to use actual good cert numbers. That way instead of having to do some detective work trying to find the cert sold somewhere you could just go to their site even on your phone to see if it matches what it looked like when it was graded

I applaud the concept which theoretically should enable a prospective buyer to compare the coin to the reference photo from the grading service. However, unless the reference photo is large, well-lit, and sharply focused it won't necessarily be very useful. This NGC photo IMO is inadequate for comparison purposes.

While this is true when trying to grade a coin it is not necessary when comparing to make sure its the same coin, the NGC pictures are good enough to be able to tell if they have the same marks in places and see if its the same coin that was graded at the time it was at NGC so their pictures do a fine job for what I said above
