Hey everyone I would like your opinions on the grade of this coin I just got it, a 1922 and although it is not a top rated grader. As they say "buy the coin not the holder". I got it at a good price and really like the luster and condition. Thanks Alan Edited by acan451 02/12/2011 8:30 pm

Appears to be MS-something based on what I can see from the microscopic sized photos.
Do you have the ability to show a full-sized photo of the coin?

Hi Davis The upload size is only 90kb. So I am having a hard time making the picture small enough to upload. Think its time for some photo software Alan

Agreed ... photo editing software is important ... Quote: Think its time for some photo software
However ... more important is good crisp images to begin with ... there is no software that can make up for deficiency in the raw photo itself. Here is the best I could do with your files ... edited and combined in Photoshop Elements 6 .. Still say this is MS-something. David

The coin was graded at MS67 by a no name grader, but it looks very close to me

no offense intended, but it will never be MS67, those bottom slabbers would grade a cleaned coin MS67 by the coin not the holder...

Quote: no offense intended, but it will never be MS67, those bottom slabbers would grade a cleaned coin MS67 by the coin not the holder... I get the impression that the original poster understands this, and bought what he considered a nice coin for the price irregardless of what the holder says. Basically, it's best to treat these bottom-slabbed coins as "raw", and there will occasionally be a nice one at the right price. The pictures are too small to get any real idea of the grade, but I'd guess at least MS-61.

There are many free photo hosting sites that you could use to post a larger photo. If you set up an account with photobucket or flickr, just upload your pictures and then right click on the image and select "copy image location". Then paste that between the image tags on this board. It should look like this: {img} http://.......{/img} except instead of using the squigly bracket, use the normal one. The coin looks very nice from what I can tell. My best guess based on the small photos is MS64, but it really could be higher. Sometimes you can get great deals by buying from basement slabbers, but just expect them to be significantly overgraded. Also, you have to watch out for cleaned coins, as these "grading companies" seem to show no regard for cleaning marks that would result in a no grade from two of the big 3.

Well said, and also they seem to over look contact marks that would keep the coin grade much lower than they give....and problem coins often go to these places...

I like how everyone is complaining about the photos, and how they 'can't see it',yet they are offering opinions as to its grade. What is this, grading by osmosis.
Nonetheless, from what I can see it looks like a nice coin. And good for you for knowing the difference between buying the slab and buying the coin. Great deals can be found this way by knowledgable people like you.

The photos are small but do appear to show chatter on the cheek and on the left obverse field. That will probably limit this coin to MS-63. Also, as a general rule, nobody ever sends a really high grade coin to a basement slabber since they would just be throwing money down the drain. Hence, it is probably MS-60 to MS-62.
As some have mentioned, every coin gets rated MS-67 by those basement slabbers. Really means nothing... sorry

Very nice coin! Minimal contact marks or abbrasions. Beautiful luster! MS 64-65. Could be higher but would have to have in hand.

From what can be seen it looks like a 64 or so.
