I have been roll searching for several months and have accumulated lots of copper. I am beginning to seperate by year and mint mark to "cherrypick" varieties/errors/anything special. My question is...after I finish picking, is there any reason to roll the coins by date/mm if they are just copper? They will probably be easier to store if rolled, but is there any additional value/reason to roll? Thanks for your opinions.

I'd say waste of time and paper. And if you take them to a bank someday, good chance they will charge you more for them. By me many banks are now charging customers for taking in rolls of coins. The reaons is they must now be sent out for counting and it takes time to open them so the customer has to pay for that service.
For long term storage it would be simpler to just dump them into a plastic roll.
As to separating by dates and mint marks. If in the future you want to sell them, many would like to know what they are buying.

Agree with carl's first statement...as to seperating them...I don't think it would be worth the effort

I Have been Rolling all mine By Date & Mint Mark, After I Pull The Like New Ones. At a Later Date I My need To Look For Something, Will Not Have To Look Thur All Of Them. I Have A Drawer With Dividers And When Drawer Get Full I Start Rolling By Date & Mint Mark Then Off For Storage. And They Stack up Well. Everyone Is Different
Good Luck

mr. boat, you don't have to capitalize every first letter! heh, you're giving me a headache.

disagree a bit with carl and maine. I've had several banks that refuse to take them UNLESS they're rolled, so I think your best bet is to ask your bank what they prefer, plain and simple. it'll save a lot of hassle. it may be that some banks want them rolled and others want them bagged.

well maine I may have...a nice big bag for you. I just sorted another 500.00 in pennies and I haven't pulled anything out yet...the suspense is killing me, however. I've gone penny crazy over here.

I noticed that capital stuff too but figured there just must be reason.
As to rolled at a bank, yes, you should always check with them first.
HOWEVER, if you do find one that wants them rolled, your lucky or they are just not up to date YET. As the growing trend to make those short rolls spreads around, more and more banks will start that charging for counting the coins. Placing foreign coins or washers in a roll too is increasing.

Maineman-you are right, I am saving copper, not looking to cash in at a bank. Have explored buying a sorter/counter, but not sure I want the expense although it would save some time and make rolling easier.

jprine, I just put $50 FV in the bags I get from the bank to search...makes it real easy to sell. I look at it this way...if I ever really need to roll them, I can do it anytime...or with the roll stacking counter from Walmart, my kid can do it.
