I saw a statement by a CEO, essentially "I can guarantee you that it will cost at least a billion dollars more to build a microchip plant in the US, just to meet all the regulations".

One of the largest candymakers in the US closed up shop in Chicago and moved to Mexico, because government regulations make sugar twice as expensive in the US as anywhere else in the world.
