Cleaned Coin Values

I recently got a few Morgans graded by ANACS. Now trying to put a value on them for my record. How do you value a cleaned coin? Do you subtract a percent?

I have always had this formula...
Heavy cleaned - minus 50%
Med. cleaned - minus 40%
Light cleaned - minus 25%

How do you guys do it?

Got a pic uploaded,

so this coin in AU50 in $250 (Coin World, 1/11)
I would say it is only lightly cleaned and it does not distract form the coin itself.

$250 - $62.50 (25%) = $187.50

Is that a good estimate on the value?
Or am I being to loose or strict?

I had an issue with cleaned coins in the late 90's, I had a 1914 D graded cleaned MS 65 details and sold it on ebay and still got 3900 for it so it really comes down to what someone wants to pay. Set a reasonable reserve but leave it open to negotiate, thats the best advice I have for dealing with cleaned coins. Good Luck!

I also had a 1922 no D graded cleaned with MS 63 detail and still got 7200 for it

Yes a 25% discount is reasonable for a circulated coin that has been dipped but not harshly cleaned. Lesson: never dip a circulated coin (!)

From there, a sliding scale based on the severity of the hairlines is reasonable. I think your figures are reasonable recognize though that magazine prices can be a bit inflated so it is best to use Coin Dealer Newsletter or auction prices for your base figure.

Thanks for your input. I am keeping the coins, just want to keep track of its value for my records. I ended up buying this one on ebay a while back for $85. Grading cost $13.35 so it cost me a total of $98.35.

Any more input would be appreciated.

I am a baseball fan so naturally I am a stats freak.

I paid $75 for the Morgan plus $13.35 for grading. Total of $88.35

Using Numismedia's price of $196 and my technique I come up with the following

$196 - $49 (25%) = $147

$147 - $88.35 = $58.65

So I am ahead of the game $58.65

Not a bad investment.
