George H. Lovett
NY 495G 31mm White Metal
Muling of NY 495/NY 492

Lovett was a die sinker and made many tokens of the time. This is a paring of two such dies and is unlisted in Rulau. I tentatively assign is the G variety and similar tokens have a mintage of four so its a R8-10. Tiny wording under the dog reads W. H. Bridgens, New York. The reverse has John Bull and Brother Johnathan exchanging lightning bolts referring to the first Atlantic Telegraph line laid in 1858.

I guess I have a muling theme with these last three. Finally found a natural blue spectrum blub so they dont look so yellow as my earlier ones did. Enjoy and share any merchant tokens of the period you may have.

Nice stuff, as always :)

Each of these warrant their own threads! Posting them in here doesn't do them justice!

Mind sharing what kind of blue bulb you obtained?

Thanks,

Cheetah

I am using a 13w CFL bulb in a tensor light which gives a nice blue spectrum. Its a start for me in taking better pictures as I have a lot to learn but these forums offer some great ideas including the thread you started.

S.W. Chubbuck
NY 1061 Copper 32mm Thick Plachet

Samuel Chubbuck (1799-1875) was a silversmith from Utica, NY. As with so many early merchants, he dealt in a little of everything as you can see. Wonderful reverse of the Morse Alphabet.

The line you see on the obverse is a die break.
