I have a provincial coin of Septimius Severus, but I can not find any record of others like it on the major identification websites.

The front depicts his laureate head right. The legend reads L SE.........PART MAX (The letters from E to P have been lost, but most likely says L SEPT SEV AVG IMP XI PART MAX).

The reverse depicts Genius standing left sacrificing over an altar and holding corn ears. The legend reads ..........COS II P P.

It is not silver, which is strange because the nearest matches to it are silver. Is it authentic or an ancient fake (must be ancient because it was coated in a thick layer of rock-like dirt when I got it)? If it is a fake, it is VERY well made. Any ideas?

It appears to be a limes denarius copying RIC 137.

L SEPT SEV AVG IMP XI PART MAX, laureate head right
P M TR P VII COS II P P, Genius....

The grey color would suggest that it could be a Limes denarius, but without an in hand view I couldn't be sure.

Thanks guys...I figured it might have been a Limes. No one knows for sure if they are barbaric fakes, semi-legal pieces issued to areas with high barbaric invasion, or for soldiers in the field if my understanding is correct. The latter two could be so if they were lost to the enemy they would not gain anything monetarily.
