Friends ... I have completed my initial roll search of a USA $25 box of cents ... writing to share my approach and results in the hope this might assist some new roll-searchers out there.
I purchased the box of cents on 1/20/11 ... so it took me nearly a month to get through what many of you experts can search in a day.

The reason for the slow pace is my lack of knowledge ... I recognized this was new ground for me so I took my time to learn what I could as I went along.
I discovered many web-sites that are helpful to USA cent searchers ... and apologize if needed for the hundreds of hits at
Lincoln Cent Resource (LCR) and coppercoins web pages.
http://www.lincolncentresource.com/http://www.lincolncent.com/I took the time to examine each and every coin obverse and reverse ... looking not only for the 'known' varieties but also for anything unusual.
The LCR web page gave me a great checklist of 'Top 50' cent varieties that I printed, highlighted and used as a reference during every search ...

Should mention that I live outside Baltimore MD, USA ... and it appears that many (most) of the
LMC varieties come from the Philly mint ... the Philly coins for sure make up 95% +- of my roll finds so far.
I set aside all the 1982 and 1983
LMC for weighing ... you know by now from my nickel find posts my interest in the 'find rate' statistics of coins ... so I am determined to know what % of 1982 were minted as copper ... and if there are any 1983 minted on copper planchet.
Weighing is done on my calibrated scale ... resolution to 0.01g ... here is a typical zincoln ..

Sooo ... that is my approach as a newbie cent roll searcher ... acquisition of knowledge ... trusting in expert web sites to support my learning ... careful study of each coin ... and verification of the transition years (82-83).
Soooo ... onward to the results from my first $25 box of USA cents ...
My copper find rate is 24.64% ... 616 copper out of 2500 coins. I suppose I am now a copper hoarder.

Found 10 wheat cents ... oldest is 1944 (x2).
56 of 60 1982 cents are copper ... so far that is 93.3% copper for 1982
LMC ... I say check them before throwing them back.
And ... I have found one LCR 'Top 50" variety ... a 1998
WAM (AU55 BN?)in the very last roll of the box ... I give it one dancing fruit as my first
WAM.

I have enjoyed a great month of learning with my initial cent search ... truly expect that I will continue to include cents in my roll searches and am looking forward to hopefully sharing more with you on this topic.
Hopeful that the newer members accept my input that slow acquisition of knowledge ... as I am trying here ... is the key to success in this hobby.
BTW ... I'm not considering a name change to 'centsearcher'.

Best
David
