Hello! I joined this forum because I would love some help identifying some information about a piece I picked up at a flea market.

It is a bronze or copper necklace with a medallion that has a raised face on it, decorated with seventeen coins. 16 of them have the inscription "J.M. ZEISER RECH PFENN" with a sun, moon and stars on one side and on the other side "ULTRA PLUS" with a ship. The one that is different has the inscription "L CHR. LAUER RECH PFENN" on the sun side and the same ship back side.

Can anyone help me figure out where this necklace came from? How old it might be? Who might have made it? Any information about the coins themselves?

Thank you so much!

Mallory

Update: I got an email from an online coin seller who said it looks Turkish and possibly dates back to 1880's. What do you think?

The "coins" aren't coins of course, but jewelry peices. Unlikely to be copper - more likely to be brass

First, Turkish coins of 1800's did not have Latin script on them.

"ULTRA PLUS" was a Spanish motto.

RECH PFENN is most likely abbreviation of rechenpfennig, a jetton.

Lauer was a German (I believe from Nuremberg) jetton maker.

I think you're right on the money, svslav. Those jeton pieces are still copied today.
