Recently picked this coin up. I wanted to ask some opinions on grade and how much I should have payed for it.(I think I got a great deal) I'm not really into collecting higher grade coins, just trying to fill all the holes in my collection. Would have settled for a much more worn coin but I couldn't pass this up.

I would say this coin is XF-40. My book shows it to be valued at 375. Anything less than 300 would be a good price.

Thanks for your input on both this and the 21-d merc soccerdad. I actually only payed $175 for this coin, I'm not good at grading and don't bring a price guide with me when I buy coins. I like to go off feeling, if it feels good (and I have the funds available) I buy it.
This dealer is a very trustworthy gentleman whom I love to buy my coins from. He always takes the time to answer my questions and teach me about the hobby. When he told me $175 my gut told me not to pass it up, I was just hoping to be right.

wow, what a price! It's hard to find these in any condition, let alone at almost half price for this key... Your gut told you right, big time ... I agree with the XF-40 whole-heartedly

I don't know how to grade Washington quarter, but for a key date and appearance I don't think for the price you paid can lose.

That's a great coin at a great price. Make sure you inspect the mintmark area really good.

If I could buy that coin at that price I'd buy them all day long.

I'm going to take it to a shop tomorrow that has a few of these in slabs and ask them to compare and give me their opinions. I don't see anything when I check through a loupe that would give me any suspicions. Again it was from an honest dealer who always takes care of me, I feel completely confident it's genuine. Either way, is this a coin worth having graded in this condition? Or better left alone in my album?

For this kind of key date, it would definately be a safe bet. That is because there are so many with fake mintmarks that everyone in China will have one in a few years

Quote: s this a coin worth having graded in this condition? Or better left alone in my album? It depends on what you plan to do with it. If you plan on selling it, then having it graded, and more importantly, authenticated, would get you the most for your return. I have a '32-D that I sent off and I knew would come back cleaned, but I was more interested in it being authentic. It has an area similar to yours that could just be toning, but when I see a buildup like that in that area, I'm cautious.

I would really only buy any key dates graded so many added mint marks are out there. Not saying this one is but rather be safe then sorry
