How much should I pay for pre-1960 nickels?

I know they have been searched and I will never get a 1950-D. But I have found some fairly rare dates. I am only missing 1939-D, 50-D, and three of the rarer silver coins.

Is paying 8 cents a piece too much?

Are you buying them only in hopes to fill your holes or are you looking to do something else with them?

I wouldn't pay anything over face for pre-60 nickels. Especially if they've been searched.

I commonly get 7.00 a roll+shipping. Always full rims, no dark spots, no probs at all, just honest age. They are also all diff. dates and/or mm. And yes, always searched.

I would say roll-searching is a good option, a full set of Jeffersons is completely plausable still, even a 50-D... And for just 5 cents a piece

I have several venues. Here, for instance. I leave a wide bearth for the searchers who came before me. They're nics have priority, but if you'd like.... I generally toss in at least one War Nickel.

Check your local banks for bags of Nickels. Or just get as many rolls as they will sell you and look through them. You would be amazed at how many older ones are still out there.

Check with your local coin shops.... we usually have lots of them around, and will sell them for face value. Otherwise we just take em to the bank.
But I wouldn't pay extra (you might take the coin dealer a latte)

I've had the best luck with Nickel roll searching, CWR yielded the best, Coin shops are a good idea as mentioned

I got a 38-D and a 38-S, along with 21 with mintage under 10 million out of 800 nickels. I paid $24 over face.

If you find one of those coins out of 100 rolls then you are doing far better than CopperNickelDaddy did.

Looking through rolls is kind of fun but I think that paying $1.20 to avoid searching 50 rolls is not too bad. Yes, I will get fewer silver nickels and I will get far fewer 50-D coins but I am pretty happy so far.
