I got a "strange" coin which I checked at the internet to be a Taiwan (Republic of China) , Date of issue, 8 Dec 1981, Diameter 22.0mm, Weight 4.4gms.
The denomination or face value for this coin is NTS 5. I am just wondering why this coin that I have does not have any face value at all. This is a genuine coin, seemingly not so much used or circulated.
Is this an error coin or something?

G'day & welcome, I'm not sure that I understand your question.
I juct checked the foreign exchange calculator and 5 TWD (NT$) is the equivalent of 14 cents.

I looked at the picture here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Taiwan_dollar

I don't read a lot of Chinese characters, and I am only familar with the modern "simplex" system used in PRC, but if I'm not mistaken, the two characters on the reverse are "Yuan" and "five".

Some countries don't use a lot of coins: PRC and Indonesia, in my experience, are like that.

evenumis accidentally clicked on the "send note to staff" link instead of the "reply to topic" link. Here is what they said:

Thank you very much for your prompt response. The Taiwan's Current Circulating Coins chart that you sent me is very useful indeed. This confirms my earlier suspicion that there is something wrong with the coin I have hahahh! There is no number "5" in English on the reverse side of my coin.. I may as well put it in my collection book for preservation... haha! Many thanks.

In Year 70 (1981), two different 5 yuan/dollar coins were issued. The smaller one (the one posted on the Wikipedia page as "current") with a "5" and the larger, older-style one as pictured here. The older, larger one without a western numeral "5" is slightly scarcer, but would not be regarded as "rare" or unusual. The mintages for both types were in the hundreds of millions.
