1978-Penny-Grading-?

Will this small dot of corrosion change the grading?

Hard to give an accurate assessment from these photos, there is a lot of light on them.
I'd say conservatively VF-30 as these photos seem to indicate a lot of wear. A third party grader would make a note of "corrosion" on the slab but it wouldn't affect the grade of the coin unless it severely interrupted the coin detail. It would however affect the price.

Also, more important for accurate grading is the obverse side of the coin (portrait).

Cheers

Corrosion changes everything, and will eventually alter the surface

The 'carbon spot' would reduce the value by about half of the 'otherwise' value.

Although is is called a 'carbon spot', it is probably minor corrosion, the deposit being copper sulphide.
Rest in Peace

If it was a penny, it would matter. The cent will spend just fine.
