picked this up today really like the colour but what is tombac and what is the grade my guess is xf 45 but I would like y'alls opinion

To conserve nickel for the war effort 5cent tombacs were made (88% copper,12% zinc).EF45 seems about right.

I'm no good at grading,but in answer to your thread,no it is not toned.Nice coin

Yeah.. I agree with EF-45.  You, know It's funny about these Tombacs, I have 2 or 3 and they all seem to be about EF or better. People must have saved them, when they first were issued.

I did a type set of Canadian nickels for not much money, and this for me was the hardest. I guess harder to do if you are Sydney (Oz) based. Mine is about the same condition.

If you ever get a chance grab a MS-64 or better example. They are still inexpensive at this grade and the golden colour is spectacular.
