I just found this in change today. The areas that caught my eye were the, to my eye, extra thick letters. The "M" in "UNAM". The "E" and "P" in EPLURIBUS. And the stalks to our left of the torch.

I see a normal coin.

One thing to realize and learn from this is that doubed dies cannot just pick specific areas to affect. In order to have what you describe there would have to be a lot more of the face of the design affected than just those two spots.

Thank you for looking. I do concede it is probably nothing. I also see where my grammar should have been better. I had meant to imply that the entire motto had extra thick letters. I was only trying to bring specific letters to everyone's attention. However I can see where it looked like I meant only those letters I mentioned looked odd. So, there are NO coins that exhibit doubling in only one area? I'm kinda leery of absolute statements. As a former Detective and as someone that has spent more than a few days in court as an Expert Witness I learned that the fastest way for an Attorney to destroy an Experts credibility was to get them to make an absolute statement and then bring up just one incident where they were wrong. Fortunately my testimony was never found to be in error in over 1200 Cases. Now if I can only learn as much about coins as I do about my former professions I would not have to ask so many questions at the beginner level.

First, what I said was not an absolute statement. I did not say that NO coins exhibit doubling in only one area - quite the contrary...a NUMBER of different doubled dies ONLY show in one area. The problem is with what you describe - the details you describe - denote a class 6 doubled die, which would ALWAYS show more in the outer periphre of the design MORE than in the center...so with what you describe, the doubling cannot be selective.
