I found a quarter with an odd error. At the top of George's neck, there's a weird raised section as seen in the pics below.

It looks like the edge of another quarter damaged the die or something, making the rest of the quarters show up with this error. Kind of neat, IMHO. Any opinions?

This probably sounds stupid but what does IMHO mean? I too would like to know what others can share about this bulge on Georgie's neck.

Thingee I've wondered the same thing but just ignored it so I wouldn't have to ask lol. As for the raised section I don't really know. I do think it's interesting though.

looks awful like a reed ding to mefrom where another coin with reeds has bumped this coin and caused the marks

Bryan, what's a "reed ding"? <me> goes off to google </me> I didn't find anything on that subject, just something about a pharmacy. If you're saying another coin bumped this one, I don't think that's the case. These "marks" are not indentions like something damaged the coin. These are raised anomalies, little pyramids sticking OUT of the coin like the die had damage before it struck the quarter.

My first impression of this quarter was that the area in question was sticking out of the quarter (die damage transfer) instead of into the quarter (post mint damage). However, upon looking at the way the light reflected off of areas in the scan and glancing at the quarter under light, I am starting to think my first impression was incorrect and that you two are right in your post-mint-damage assessment. I'll rescan the quarter at a different angle and examine it under the microscope again later today to see if I can tell if these are raised or indented sections. My apologies if I was incorrect the first time.

Well stuff. I just checked the quarter under the microscope, looking at it from various angles. These are indeed little holes, not raised sections like I first thought. I guess I don't have anything after all. Thanks for the replies, everyone, and cluing me to my error in judgement.

edit: LOL, "stuff" was changed from a word that spells very similarly to "carp."

Oh! Okay! Thanks for making me look stupid. Just jokin'. I did feel stupid asking, but curiosity got the best of me!
