Hi guys -

Got this in change yesterday from a local grocery store. Any idea what the stamp might mean? Something Masonic?

G = Government. That is the ones they are making with a micro chip to follow you everywhere. Soon all coins will be like that and no matter where you go or what you do will be recorded. Imagine dropping one in a toilet.
Or there are many of similar ones floating around. Some with other people on them, some with similar symbols, some with initials, etc. Just something people do thinking they are advertising something.

That is a masonic symbol stamped into the coin. I have 3 similar to yours, on a 57, 69, and 81 cents, the 69 and 81 are also chrome plated. The square and compas have been their symbols for centuries, don't remember what the "G" stands for. Don't know alot about them, my understanding is the Free Masons would meet in secret areas, there would be hosts at the door verifying you were a member, the stamped coin was your ticket to get into the meeting. I also heard that since most of the members knew each other the coins were given out by members to people they wanted/ showed an interest in joining so they could gain access to the meeting. I am sure if I am wrong on this someone will correct/increase my knowledge so we can both learn.

I have an extensive collection of Masonic tokens. Many have names, dates even love tokens made from them. Swap meets and junk boxes are the place to find them.

Pretty cool looking coin, BadThad. I guess I'll just hang onto it and see if I come across any others.

My grandfather had one and it is now in my collection. He was a Mason and so was my father at some point in time. I saw one at an antique mall for $5 but it has been there for about 2 years so it is priced a little high

To my knowledge, it can stand for God, The Great Architect of the Universe, or Geometry.
