I assume this is worth it's weight in gold (1/4 ounce). But any collector value? (almost uncirculated)
-- If I wanted to sell it for the gold value... would I take it to a bank? ebay? Dealer? .... I am clueless. (including clueless whether this is the right forum for this kind of question).

This coin is not only worth its wheight in gold, but it will command a small premium over gold spot because it is actually US currency, not just bullion coined by a private mint.

Gold American Eagles usually trade at a slight premium to their melt value. You've got a 1/4 ounce gold piece with about $350 in gold in it. It's worth that as a minimum and maybe $400 in RedBook retail price.

THANKS for the response. Is it obvious how little I know?
So let's see, since it is currency the bank would give me $10.00, so that leaves finding a private buyer I guess. (sometimes I surprise myself).

These sell pretty well on ebay. Although you'll have to pay some fees, you should get market value. Not sure how much a dealer would pay you, but I usually find ebay to be the best place to get value. Especially if you have good photos, which the ones you posted are.

I wear a 10 dollar gold coin in a pendant on my necklace. I actually have two of them, one with a black onyx background and another with the bezel the same size as the coin. The one with the black onyx was actually my wifes but she gave it back to me when we split up

Yea its a good coin but a dealer will most probably offer you spot gold for it. That isn't a horrible deal, but ebay will nickel and dime you on their 10% fee and paypal's 3%
