The woodgrain really stands out in the photo. Not so much in hand though.

I find the wood grain coins are very hard to grade...but, I'll agree this one looks AU-50 at least.

You are right about wood grain coins being hard to grade. I would not grade coin any higher than XF-40. There is way too much wear on hair above ear and on beard. Also I do believe this coin has been cleaned, not recently but a while ago. There is a build up of dirt in the lettering, in the wheat and around the rim leading me to believe this coin has been cleaned.

I could be convinced that this coin was dipped and retoned but I have no experience with that,
so I don't know. For grade I would agree with soccerdad and go EF40-45.
Nice coin and if it was cleaned in the past it is a mute point now.

The reverse looks a little flat. Maybe a light cleaning. Even acetone, sometimes, will do something like that, dulling-down the reflectivity, somewhat.

AU-50. I like the color and woodgrain don't think it has been cleaned.
