Great piece but my pocket would have to be zippered for me to carry around, and even then...

Yeah, kind of like that. I have it zippered in my wallet. That doesn't mean I couldn't lose it, I'd just have to lose my whole wallet with it. I think it will still get the effect of wear as it will slide around.

I do understand what you guys are saying though. There is a lot of wisdom in all of your words and I may reconsider. Maybe a $10 piece would be safer as it would have more bulk? but then the value risk is doubled too.

I would like to have something as a conversation piece too(obviously for those that I trust). A morgan would be cool, but it's just not the same as gold...

I had an 1888 Morgan for a pocket piece, because it was my first coin given to me, then I put it up and it got stolen 2 weeks later... So now I never put my pocket piece down...

I like carrying lower end pocket pieces when I go out to have drinks with my friends.

You'd be surprised to see how many beers or drinks can be bought with a Catherine the Great 2 or 5 kopeck piece. And my favorite bartender knows they aren't high end pieces. He also knows that I have 'em, and nobody else does locally.

Yeah, you all are probably right. If my wallet were lost or stolen, I'd be hosed. It's the equivalent of carrying $400 in my wallet around with me(which I never do).

Exactly!

P.S. I like it just the way it is and wouldn't do ANYTHING to it!

Well, I did purchase this coin intentionally as kind of a toy. To touch, feel and flip in the air and hopefully wear it down eventually even if I dont carry it out of the house in my pocket. I might even incorporate it into a magic trick. :-)
So much of my gold is "untouchable", especially the higher end stuff in either slabs or Danscos, and they being in a safety deposit box.

I also have a different long term eventual goal for this coin. Over the last few months, I've been enjoying putting junk slqs together in tube rolls. Wouldn't it be something to but together a tube of 40 $5 or 2 1/2 junk eagles? I would probably have to sell parts of my collection to get there.

Has anyone here thought of putting a tube together of raw problematic 5 or 2 1/2 eagles, or is that just a silly idea?
