I recently purchased this ANACS AU detail net 45 $5 indian for very little over melt. However, this one has really been scrubbed, and net 45 was too generous. This is a good one to use as a pocket piece since I know it is genuine, but not really worth much more than melt. I am hoping that the fields wear quickly, being that they are incuse can't be protected from the devices. I'd like to turn it into a less problematic XF if possible. I just really have to be careful that I don't lose it.

interesting, so if you can get it to xf without the problems, its value might increase? is that the plan so it can be worth more than melt?

I had a $5 indian as a pocket peice for a few years. It was so worn it had no date but I lost it some how. Now I just carry a morgan and a Peace dollar, much less loss when one rolls out of my pocket.
Rest in Peace

Honestly I dont think it will really increase the value. I'm just curious about the wear pattern, and if I can remove most evidence of cleaning. Wearing it down to a lowball might be kind of fun too.

Muddler, yeah that is my fear too. For the most part I will keep it in a pouch in my wallet to help with this.

holy crap, a pocket piece... I love this type, it's gotta be my favorite. It's an easy way to wear down bad spots on a coin for sure. Maybe more people will use these as pocket pieces so I can find one!

Plus, with the softness of gold, it might go Lowball on you pretty quick...

Can I ask you guys what the point of a pocket piece is? I just want your reasons for doing it. I'm not ragging on you guys, it seems cool to me.

I carry a '23 Peace dollar as a pocket piece. I just really like having that big ol' lump of silver with me, and there's no way I'm going to accidentally spend it.

In refrance as to why a pocket peice, it is a good conversation item to have when you are making a purchace. The cashier may see the change you have and ask about the large silver coin mixed with your change. I have educated many a cashier on the silver dollars I carry. Many years ago I even carryed a $20 gold peice but they never noticed it, they wanted to see the silver dollar!

I carry a PO01 1878 Morgan which took place of a XF 1883-S I carried around for years as just kind of a good luck piece I guess. It has sparked a few conversations with people though

Yikes! Great piece but my pocket would have to be zippered for me to carry around, and even then...
I like the idea though, I need to find a silver round from 1985 (birth date)to carry around since there aren't any silver coins from that year. Any good ideas?

If you were fortunate enough to never lose it and give it a more original appearing surface by wearing it down a bit, I would think you could increase it marketability and value. Good luck!
