I can find the 1905 & the rare 1906s One Peso in Krause but not this one. Is it rare or is it a forgery?

to the community The 1906 was struck as a proof coin only. This looks like it could be one of those that went into circulation.

so this brings up a question in terms of valuation. According to Krause a 1906S is known in the counterfeit market and a real one brings a nice price (or costs you a pretty penny - depending on the side of the deal you are on). The Proof has less value but I would assume that would be the value (listed as $900) of the coin looking like or encased like - a proof coin should. So how does the community value such a piece as this. I think it is beautiful but if I were to see it for sale, I would have no idea what value I should ascribe it.

The formation of the 1906 numbers in relation to the coin's dentils are in normal positions, thus it is proper to say the above specimen is a genuine 1906 proof coin. Its mintage was recorded at 500 pcs. Quote: The 1906 was struck as a proof coin only. This looks like it could be one of those that went into circulation echizento is right, we call these kind of coin condition as an "Impaired Proof of 1906 USPI" The 1906-s USPI is much rarer than 1906 proof peso coins even though its mintage of 201,000 is far more than the 500 pcs of 1906 proof ones. However the existence of these 1906-s nowadays based on some books lessened to around 200 pcs or even less. In terms of its present value, I would be safe to say US$1,000 for that coin.

I agree maximum price $1000 but on average around $500 for a proof in this condition. Looks VF most proofs are uncirculated.

Pandesalapi @ I have a Philippines 1906S 1 peso Authenticated by NGC for surface hairlines in AU Details. But as I carefully check the coin, it has the MD - Mechanical Doubling or MDD - Mecahnical Doubling Damage of the Letter " U,N,I,T,E " of the word United and " E,R,I,C,A " of the word America and the number " 1906 " including the "s" mint mark in reverse has the MD (Mecahnical Doubling) and its very visible using 30x lens. Is the Error MD (mecahnical doubling) can affect the value of my coin? thanks !

Sorry aawiki for the very late reply... I was off on vacation. the 1906s USPI peso coin you posted is an altered coin roughly made. And welcome to the community family. Malikot: We all would appreciate if we all see its picture and it will be my first time seeing a 1906 USPI with such error. Who knows it would cost a lot as your collection.
