Emanuel from the R.C.M. called me today...and I'm sure he called lots of other Master members as well....WE had a great chat about coins and collecting...I mentioned how poorly The Royal Mint has done with the Will and Kate coins so far and how impressed I was with the R.C.M. on their realistic portraits of the new high relief coins of the 3 princes...Emanuel told me the Queen was so impressed with the Canadian release...that she ordered a set for herself... The call today from the mint sure made one feel like a V.I.P.

KH, I take it you ordered the set. I am really not sure about this one. Please let us know how they look when you get them.

At least they look like the princes. We all know take #1 from The Royal Mint was bad. But, did you see take #2? It's even worse. The RCM is also going to do a wedding coin: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life...icle1934349/"As well, it will soon unveil designs commemorating Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding. The wedding coins will feature "an eye-catching technological feature," according to the Mint." Hmmm

Masters club members get notified when sets are almost sold out, right?
Are these things selling well? I don't plan on purchasing but I am curious.

Yes we do get advance notice of sellouts...and yes I ordered the set to continue the series...The Royal Mint have not pleased the public with their Royal releases ...so I'm counting on the Canadian ones to prove to be the more sought after coins...only time will tell... There is one review on the Will coin and the person said it was alot nicer than the site showcased it to be...Personally I'm not a big Royals follower..But lots of Canadians and the British sure are...

I don't know if this will be a sell out. But either way, I can't convince myself to spend $300 on those coins (and my wife is 100% dead against it so that doesn't help the cause).
I'll pass for this time but I am interested to hear from you when you get them.

I noticed that compared with the 2009 Vignettes, the weight has been reduced from 30 g down to 25.18 g (16%) and, at the same time its price increased by 10%. In the same time frame, silver has almost doubled, so this isn't too bad.

Hummmm. 4 months later, still available. $10 below sale price on ebay right now... Not quite a sell out.

A coin or series that is not quickly snatched up by the masses is often one of the better coins to buy and hold..for future gains...I need only to point to the 2009 summer moon mask...sold poorly... only 2834 from a projected 10,000 but now just a few yrs latter it's more then double..I've seen lots of coins sell out and not really increase in value... Yes...I bought ...Its a nice set ...The 2ND only High relief set Canada has ever released...So I'm hoping it sells poorly for now.......

KH, I hope you prove me wrong on this one. I believe base metal is the only salvation for this release. I saw $87 was the last bid today - over $20 discount. Truly, the most uninspiring coin in a long time, in my humble opinion.

The empire is being rammed down our throats right now, to be perfectly honest. I'm waiting for the Camilla coin and the goat's ceremonial coin.

Wouldn't the Camilla coin be the same thing as the Goat coin?.............Oh wait, that would be the new Horse coin, not the Goat coin

[quote] How do Canadians feel about the Empire nowadays? [/unquote]
I can only speak for myself, but I think the overall feeling towards the Royals in Canada is very positive. I was born in Ontario and I grew up in a rich environment of total respect for Her Majesty and the whole Royal Family. As a transplanted Canadian now living in the States (due to college and work), I miss it. It's kinda hard to explain, but it's a good feeling to feel part of the foundation and history that being part of the British Empire provides.

Well as of now, all the coins are still available... and $20 below sale price on ebay, these qualify as duds. Perhaps with time, rarity/demand will develop.
